Under this programme, training is imparted to doctors, health care workers,
teachers, school children and volunteers. Identification of high risk
population is done for screening of diabetes by specially trained team of
workers. The whole population is given life style modification advice. People
who are diagnosed as diabetic are screened for complications. We have

newspaper, pamphlets, posters, banners etc. We also distribute diabetes
awareness booklets free of cost to people attending screening camps. Under
the program, in last 3 years, we have trained 1458 doctors and 4792
Conquer Diabetes (improving access to diabetes care for the poor
through innovative Public Private Partnership in Gujarat):
Considering poor health care facility for diabetes management in poor and
difficult to reach areas, we have initiated the program in association with
Government of Gujarat and Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. We have
selected three areas: Urban poor, Rural and Tribal. People residing in such
areas had to travel long distance to get proper treatment of diabetes and its
complications. We have trained 177 government doctors and 1260
paramedical workers of selected areas in various aspects of diabetes
management so that they get proper treatment at their doorsteps. We use
Skype - a cost effective communication medium, for handholding of trained
doctors, to help them provide treatment to difficult to manage cases at their
doorsteps. It has saved time, money and energy of diabetic patients and
their relatives as they are now able to get treatment very near to their
residence. Around 40,000 diabetic patients are getting benefit of the project.
We had done general public awareness about diabetes through distribution
of pamphlets, banners, booklets, posters and also organized 30 drama/skits
in local languages.
Make My Life (An Innovative project for type 1 diabetes children):
India is leading in number of type 1 diabetes cases in South East Asia
Region. Lack of education and improper care leads to various complications.
Many of the complications of Type 1 diabetes are potentially preventable if
these children manage their disease carefully and undergo screening for
complications regularly. Type 1 children are dependent on the parents and
pose additional burden to the society. The cost of bringing up these children
may not give any reward in terms of social benefit and that is why society
neglects these children.
We are taking an initiative to establish a dedicated centre of excellence for
type 1 diabetes patients. We are providing free education, better clinical care
at free/subsidised rate through a dedicated team to treat type 1 patients
exclusively. We provide prevention & screening for complications of diabetes
at free/ subsidised rate, indoor facilities when required at free/subsidised
rate , psychological, career and marriage counselling. We carry out research
activities regarding Type 1 diabetes and various other activities to spread
message to common people and involve them actively.
MEET FOR TYPE 1 DIABETIC CHILDREN:
It includes competitions, games, drama (with a message), gifts and prize
distribution to all the children to impart the education in a fun-filled and
entertaining atmosphere. The meet is totally free for children with diabetes
along with their parents. Travel expenses and free accommodation are given
to needy patients. All patients of Type 1 diabetes in the state of Gujarat are
taking advantage of this unique opportunity. The meet is being organised
once a year.
Marriage Bureau For Type 1 Diabetes:
Due to social stigma attached with the type 1 diabetes, such children face
many hurdles for their marriage or they have to do compromise at one or
other level. For the first time in the world we have started marriage
counselling cum marriage bureau for children with type 1 diabetes. National
and international media as well as magazines have taken notice of it. We
have received many bio-data from all part of India as well as abroad.
Majority of those are from girls. We are successful in tying a note of 18 Type
1 Diabetes. Among them, in 5 couples both are type 1, while in 8 couples
counterpart is healthy.
"Project Shravan - Save a Leg" Project:
Diabetic foot disease is known to be a major cause of morbidity and is a
leading cause of non traumatic amputation. More than 90% of limb can be
saved from amputation if timely diagnosis is done with modern instruments
and proper treatment is given. We are providing our expert services to
diabetic foot patients either free or at affordable rate to prevent foot
amputation. We also organized diabetic foot screening camps. We are
spreading awareness related to diabetic foot in general population.
Project Shravan was launched at Swaminarayan gurukul, Ahmedabad on
14/6/2015. Unique concept of reviving Indian culture in which son /
daughter take care of their father / mother is incorporated for Diabetic foot
care. In this project training is given to children of diabetic patients for how
to take care of feet of their parents/ grandparents and thus prevent
amputations. On the day 108 pairs of two generation came together, where
younger generation has washed their parents/ grandparents feet and get
knowledge of foot care.
